Treating Cancer with Pet Chemotherapy
With the word “cancer” comes a lot of fear, but with modern veterinary medicine, we’re better equipped than ever to combat this terrible disease. At Broadway Pet Hospital, we administer chemotherapy treatments in the comfort of our animal hospital. While we are not veterinary oncologists, we can work with your pet’s specialty veterinarian to administer the appropriate treatments based on their insight. This gives you the convenience of coming to your own veterinarian for cancer treatment.
What to Know About Pet Chemotherapy
Pet chemotherapy is very similar to its human counterpart. It is a drug that attacks your pet’s cancer cells—as well as some of their good cells in the process. While humans often experience severe side effects from chemotherapy, pets are far better off. Some fatigue and nausea are common, but they typically do not feel them with the same acuity that we do. Still, we recommend palliative care treatments throughout chemotherapy to ensure the maximum comfort and well-being of our patients.
Using Acupuncture for Palliative Care
To ease your pet’s discomfort, we offer acupuncture for their palliative care. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific acupoints to trigger positive physiological reactions. It helps relieve any pain caused by the cancer or chemo, any nausea or vomiting, and any stress/anxiety throughout treatment.
